'nids part 137 - Yet more WiPs, of Venom/Zoan-thropes and Lictors

I'm rapidly warming to the idea of these four Tyranids [including the Dakkafex] being referred to as the 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'. Certainly fluff-wise I will write something. The Zoanthrope will be 'Famine', representing the spirit leech power the Doom used to have

The Lictor will be 'Death' for Deathleaper, striking from the shadows without warning, obviously, like death itself.

The Venomthrope will be 'Pestilence', bringing a toxic cloud of disease with it.

And the Dakkafex will be 'War', bigger, stronger and more armoured than his 3 siblings it seemed appropriate [he gets his own blog post as well, he does totalt the pts of all these afterall, so look forward to that]. They'd make a nice Dataslate, perhaps being immune to Instinctive Behaviour when they're within unit coherency range of each other, although not being a unit and not gaining the other benefits of Synapse - Fearless [although the Carnifex gets that anyway].

    1. Thanks Todd, there are so many cool colour schemes out there I'm sure he'll find something he can get behind, then you usually see someone else's scheme and want to change them all. I actually had a moment like that myself recently, can't remember what nid army it was that made me wish I'd painted them that way.

When my son chose nids for his army I decided they would be blue because that was his favorite colour. I was inspired* by necrotales http://www.necrotales.com/necroGalleries/main.php?g2_itemId=370 and with my own touches, like the red planet base, more reds, greens yellows and increased contrast have evolved it into my own, I think.

      * when I say 'inspired by' I obviously mean blatantly ripped off ;)

  2. The cohesiveness of the units is really great. Something to be proud of. I find when you create a nice scheme like this, it just gets better and better the more units you paint with it! That's when you know you picked the right colors.

    1. It's certainly evolved over the years I've been painting it, the contrast in the colours has increased and more colours added. I've grown better in what I do but also some of the brush work I've done recently has ranged from finer than ever before to downright sloppy but I think especially with nids they're so forgiving you can get away with a lot more than any other army, except maybe for Orks or Nurgle.

It's been nice to paint four very distinct but similar sized models all at the same time. I completed them yesterday, had a day off work for one of son's school assembly so the rest of the day was my own. They look really impressive as a group, just need to gloss varnish the hard bits and add the Tamiya Clear Red X-27.

Greg, did you ever see my Armies on Parade board? It's worth checking out to see how the scheme works on the true Ferron Proxima: http://40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/armies-on-parade-board-udate.html

A lot has been added since then so I was looking forward to this years competition, I had big plans too, but I heard it's not going to happen. Still need to check with GW HQ if that's the case though.

    2. I don't think I'd seen them as a whole like that. Just wow. That's all I can say. Wow.
