Dreadtober 2019 - Verdigris and vert de green

#Dreadtober update and the verdigris has been added. Typically it is a mixed affair, where sometimes the application looks as close to what it can be in reality

And then in other areas where it just looks like I've splodged turquoise paint on it.

But the fist got quartered for the 5th company's badge and I also started shading all the panels with black.

Again, subtle unwanted tide marks with the black, that's what happens when you don;t apply a layer of texture to hide all these mistakes! However, the subsequent highlights/glazes should mitigate this issue.

Waaargh Flesh I think is the highlight, mainly drybrushed on but some areas where it was applied as a line-highlight and others where it was thinned and blended.

I could feel myself rushing this a bit in places, but I'm thinking I may go back in with some Caliban Green, drybushed to help blend the lighter and darker shades together.

This will also help cover up any marks I hadn't resolved, although if I do any weathering/battle damage that will be even less of an issue...

More highlights and glazing next...

  1. Very cool metal effects and a great result to far. Congrats.

    1. It had been surprising and productive. Although I've not been 100% diligent, far from it, it's felt really rewarding to have achieved this despite not being able to focus more on it.

    1. My only concern is I'm beginning to feel a little under the weather so I could do with an early night or two. Instead I'm burning the candle at both ends. Need to keep strong, not long left now.

  3. Cool idea painting the Power Fist with the 5th company insignia. What a great way to artfully blend the company designation smoothly with the overall paint job instead of the traditional little circle you see in the codex pages.

    1. Cheers Floyd, although I'm guilty of the circle badge too. I did these quartered kneepads, using Sanguinary Guard legs on an Assault squad, it's not much more than a circle but I did like the convenience: http://www.40kaddict.uk/2017/07/dark-angels-assault-squad-to-done.html

I think it harks back to the original legion approach where each Marine had his own heraldry in a way. I should consider doing more of this sort of thing...

  4. I'd say just dry brush some bronze over the most conspicuous verdigris, but you should not do *anything* to spoil that lovely quarter pattern.

    1. I'm not sure I'm that precious about the turquoise to be honest. Having painted a bit more since there are couple of decisions I think I could have made but I'm in a place where I can actually not feel compelled to go back at this stage and implement them. That's a good thing - I am master of the model, not the other way round.

I will not do *anything* to spoil the quarter pattern, but I think I have done *somethings* to make it better. Update later will hopefully meet with your approval.
