Support your local blogger - www.feedyournerd.com/greggles-tabletop

Greg Hess has been a regular supporter and commenter on this blog for quite a while now, he's even taking part in this years Hobby Season, but he also has his own blog on the Feed Your Nerd website, here: www.feedyournerd.com/greggles-tabletop

He's just come back from the NOVA open, his first visit to gaming event and there are a gazillion pictures available from that event. Why I think you should pop on over is it's clear that not only is he supporting my own blog but he is commenting on lots of others. Every time I nip to one of my favorite blogs I find Greg's words of wisdom somewhere. I talked a while back about how blogging networks aren't as effective as you'd think and how you really need to put the mileage in promoting your own blog yourself. Greg was the first person to comment and state his own views, in particular his first tip was
1) Actually visiting other peoples blogs and commenting on them. (That's the whole point really, meeting new people and learning tips and tricks to the hobby!)
And he does just that! He's joining in in the community and trying to foster that spirit. from the looks of the NOVA open he got to meet up with some of my other favorite bloggers and I think that's further testament to the spirit of the hobby. Its not always about having the latest miniature or win at all cost list, it's about entering your first painting competition or attending a gaming event just to see what it was like and take pictures, even if you're not competing, I love that!

But there's other stuff on his blog too, plenty of painting and with quite a To Do List for the 2014/15 Hobby Season there will be more to come. I particularly like his Black Templars, there's an understatedness about them that is enhanced by the little touches of the grass tufts, and scenic bases.

There's also a really good tutorial on painting brown rock bases that's worth taking a look at.

And a tutorial on magnetising a Techmarine that I wished I'd found sooner, doh! :(

So nip on over and support Greg the way he's been supporting us all over the past few months.

  1. Full circle...the day you visit the blog rolls, and someone is talking about you in their own blog. Words can not express my gratitude! I can only help as I improve in my painting skills and ability to modify tiny plastic men, that I can help the community as much as they have helped and inspired me.

Always a pleasure visiting your blog Dave. It's one of my standout favs :). [especially when it's about me! har har har].

    Note:
I need a new Google+ photo. Todd over at SincaiN40k (another of my favorite blogs), was a bit wary of meeting me, because he said "You look like a crazy stoner"

    1. Not a problem, my pleasure. You've contibuted so much in what seems like a short time it's only right you get some kudos, and I saw Faeit picked up your NOVA pic stoo, you hits should be great this month ;)

I'm thinking of adding a 'Community' tab at the top of the page to include all the Support Your Local Blogger' posts, links to those undertaking the Hobby Season and even Old Stuff day as that's a bit 'community'.

    2. That sounds like a really good idea. Sometimes I miss individuals posts if they get buried in the blog rolls. (the blog rolls update in some sort of mystical pattern which I have yet to divine). I try to adapt that by having a bunch of my favs up, but then my blog roll gets to be like 50 lines long. (the only blogs I don't regularly frequent are the ones without photos :) )

    3. First rule, always have a picture, and try to make sure it's not a linked image URL because I find they don't tent to show up in blogrolls...

    4. Roemer here, not sure why I couldn't type my message with the Wordpress account. Oh well.

Thanks for undertaking this project! Greg is one of the most diligent hobbyists I've seen around. I'm not gonna lie, the Google+ pic did scare me a while ago too. Combine that with your habit of dropping by for almost all my posts (which is greatly welcome and pretty much keeps me going so far - thanks!) and you can see why that message flew by!

A message to all who check Greg's work: don't be fooled by his humility, he has quite a lot of skill when it comes to the hobby!

    5. Well I made it a goal to "almost" always comment on every blog I visit, and you started yours almost the same time I started mine. :)

It's your fault for posting such great project updates!

If you guys actually saw how many times I've commented across the blog sphere, you'd probably be slightly terrified. (I filter the replies into a separate gmail tab, so I can always access them for checking up on things, like this excellent pod cast overview by Bill.
