500,000

I'm not sure if I've ever been able to attribute half a million anything to my life, maybe breaths and heart beats but who really counts them? But half a million page views, that's like nearly 500,000! We don't do this for the money - there is none, but if I had a pound for every view I'd be half a millionaire ;) No, seriously, I couldn't have done it without you all, I mean literally I couldn't have done it without you all! Otherwise there would have been zero page views, although I'm sure some bots might have visited in some form.

I've touched on this before that if you've got a blog and you're committed to it then milestones are a key motivator in keeping going. Arbitrary ones and real ones they're all good. Page views and followers are like the film and TV awards that are 'voted by the viewers'. They're the things actors/singers gush about being important because it's voted for by the fans [up until they get an award voted for by the industry when it becomes important because the experts know what they're talking about ;) ].

However, page views and followers are a big deal for bloggers because it keeps us going. Milestones like my To Do List are cool too, it shows we're getting on with our hobby and doing stuff - providing content. But there are plenty of bloggers out there writing and posting with just a handful of followers and page views and I salute you all for keeping going and hopefully this will be a testament that it can be done.

I'm looking forward to my next half-million, there's plenty of new projects and battles to report on and I look forward to bringing you all along for the ride. I may never shake my addiction but with a support group like you all, I'll just take one day at a time.

  1. Congratulations bud that is a massive achievement, your my blogging hero and a testiment to what someone can achieve through blogging. It's almost 12 months ago when you convinced me to have my own blog and at the time I thought "I would give it a go", but being dyslexic I have to it's my worst nightmare, havering to put your thoughts into words for the world to see and be judged, is a mental barrier I wouldn't of expected to over come. But like you said it's the like minded people out there, page views and comments that has made blogging another one of my many addictions or putting it another way, an expansion of my already highly addictive nightly activities with glue, paint and green stuff. Thank you Dave for sharing and here's to the next half million :)

    1. Keep at it Liam, and at the end of the day your own work speaks volumes and it would be a travesty for it not to reach a wider audience. You need to take just more pictures of your amazing models and you could put one on every day and you'd have content for a couple of decades! What about your elves and their eagles?

  3. Many congratulations Dave! Your blog was one of my fast favs. You interact with your visitors, which encourages more comments and more collaboration between other bloggers. The to-do list is just going to drive us all into a producing frenzy. Nothing but happy times thanks to your hard work!

One motivator I like to keep in mind is comments. I value a single comment equal to 1000 page views, which is why I always try to comment as much as possible....plus I swear the capatcha gets easier...or maybe it's just my mind adapting.

    1. Thanks Greg, I'm 1,800+ comments so far, so thanks for introducing a new arbitrary milestone device. Rest assured they're great motivators but I will always try and make sure that the self congratulatory nature of recognising them does not interfere with actual bloig posts. I may have quietly switched to a Mon, Wed, Fri posting schedule [as the hobby work is slow due to the loft] but these posts are always in addition to that actual content.

Not that you were concerned with that, it's just me being paranoid, ha, ha.

  4. Congratulations :) only just started out in the blogging world but finding it rewarding already. 500 000 page views is immense and thoroughly deserved. I still remember seeing your stuff at the last few blog wars and it is very impressive :)

  6. Well done Dave 500,000!!!!, Im not worthy.....lol.

No really thats a big deal fella, personally I've been blogging for one year I have seven followers and around 3400 page views, miles stones....well I hope to reach 5000 by the end of the year but if Im honest I really want to reach 5 figures so 10,000 is the real target.

As for followers I would love to reach 20+, I was a tad lazy in the begining and not posting as often as I should, I've changed tac of late and are now trying to post at least once a week, I have got a little mini motivator going at the moment also where Im trying to beat july's 5 poster lol, so 6 in one months the target now, bit daft but it keeps me going.

Anyhow Dave I came to your Blog late but I enjoy your posts keep it up man.

    1. Better late than never. Here's something that may help your own hits. When I first revealed Project X as my 2014 Armies on Parade board that post got 2289 hits all on it's own and it's minor update had 982. I didn't even push those stories on G+ and Facebook like I do with my Print & Play terrain plans [1099 hits].

So I'm thinking people are on the look out for Armies on Parade board ideas. As you are currently starting one that could well be a little gold mine of hits for you... and I know some other bloggers are doing them too [Liam Ainscough] so some WiP shots would be nice ;)

No guarantees but it was an interesting spike that I noticed in my own hits.

  8. Congratulations mate, it is a real testament to what you are providing to the community. I have to agree with Greg, comments are like little veins of gold running through bedrock.

    1. Indeed they are and I was really surprised to check how many I'd had after Greg highlighted their importance. Of course half of them are me going 'thanks guys' but it's still nice. The other milestone I'll get to celebrate is actual posts, I'm running up to 828 now, you'd wonder if I'll ever shut up?!

    2. Have to remember...just to say "nice job Dave". Someone has to click reply, login an account, then click publish, then have it maybe fail at logging in, deleting their post, then retyping, then logging in, then fighting fast a capatcha.

It's not so much a "nice job dave". It's really a

"I felt it was important to let you know I was reading, and that your work is impressive...so much that I just fought the computer, the internet, and this stupid anti spam thing, just to say it"

    3. I hate it so much when I have the login fail and that carefully crafted response is lost in the ether and you think should I write it out all again...?

    4. Hahaha. I started copying mine before I hit submit after that happened a few times :).
