Terrain is everything - 'Tis the season to pick up your trees

A few years ago I picked up a bag of model trees from Dobbies, our local garden centre [and craft shop]. They only have them in the run up to Christmas as they're for making your own Christmas scene with miniature revellers and holiday nik-naks. I'd noticed other online garden centres stocked them also and as I wasn't getting to go to Dobbies I did a search and they were 50% off on one store but I was out shopping and decided to buy it when I got home only for the last set to be sold...

I couldn't stand to have lost out and found them again on sale at Dawson's Department Store again at just £6.50 with £3.95 postage, so I ordered 2 set just for best value. It says there are more than 10 left in stock and at that price I thought I'd share so everyone can get a chance at a bargain. The set I got was 21 pieces from a company called Lemax. Clearly there's at least two that are just a bit too big, they're the same size as my 40k outpost that got bigger! but great line of sight blockers for a Trygon!

Of course they weren't going to fit with my table so I decided to paint them - undercoating them all in Red Oxide primer and then repainting them in shades of yellow.

And here's the finished result:

  1. I bought two sets of these a while ago now. Was in two minds about using them because they were too green. Had a set out on a window sill and when I came to open the second set I realised the first has faded to a perfect shade! See, procrastination is good sometimes!

    1. Indeed it can be, I'm using so much procrastination just to get paid to schemes and processes right in my head, moving from one project to the next just so I can resolve these issues.

    1. Couldn't believe they were half price, so it made sense to get two packs. They should even have been delivered today but the tracking says they haven't been picked up... Fingers crossed I haven't advised on a bad deal.

    2. Arrived safely in a HUUUUGE box, 3times larger than it needed to be really. But here and another thing to do at some point.

  3. Awesome, I did terrain too! The battles are so much better for it, I reckon

    1. Really need to do some bigger terrain pieces but too many figures to paint...

  4. I picked up some packs at my local Aldi for $8 AUD in the lead up to Christmas, primarily for my Infinity collection as my 40K stuff is all jungle terrain. I had no idea Christmas terrain hording was such a big thing, but when they hit the shelves at Aldi all of the Australian forums lit up like a... well, you know ;-)

    1. One of my early posts was the shock of trees costing so much compared to when I first started the hobby. These are a bit cheap looking, as they really are just a bottle brush but I think there is potential in them even if you don't paint them yellow like I do. I like the base mounds too.

  5. I picked up a bunch of those after Christmas last year. Rite Aid had them at 75% off! Still haven't gotten around to making bases for them, but I got the time-sensitive part taken care of. I'm using them to go alongside my SW, so the snow is actually a bonus for me :)

    1. Absolutely, if you've got a winter theme these are excellent and don't really need any tweaking. Obviously, for me, it helps them fit my table, makes them more durable and look a bit cooler too.
