Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire Chosen Axes - TO DONE!

I finished the Chosen Axes just before the end of the last Hobby Season, but I didn't take my TO DONE! pics, well apart from one for the end of the season review.

With Garrek's Reavers done I thought I'd do all three warbands in one sitting and I ended up loving the Camera360 shots so much I didn't even bother with my digital camera - too much faffing.

It's really weird to look at these now, I haven't really paid them much attention since I finished and I'm pleasantly surprised what I actually did.

I'm not 100% convinced about the grey on the base, but the flock and skulls are OK.

Individual facing shots [where appropriate].

Gratuitous 360° rotation.

I can honestly say right now I don't quite know how I did the gold on that axe head. I need to go back and see if there are any tips. It might just be my standard brassy bronze with some extra highlights but that's what I'll go for on my Deathwing Knights when I get round to them.

And on a white background, with more natural colours.

I had considered coating their skin in gloss varnish, glad I didn't now; although I glossed the armour on Garrek's Reavers so I got to see what it would have looked like.

That 'gold' tho!

Of course these were completed in my 2017/18 Hobby Season and as I've only just got round to taking some pics here's the appropriate Big Gamboge Stamp of Approval!

    2. Not sure about selling them. Daniel, you're right that was the plan but when I finished them I just couldn't imagine parting with them.

NafNaf, if I reconsider I'll drop you a line. I've definitely got plans to put all my warbands into Armies on Parade this year because I want a Sigmar entry. Hopefully I'll have another couple of warbands to join them.

  2. I love the skin. No need for a gloss varnish on it. You did well to paint it reflectively, which I really like.

That axe is great too. The shading on it is awesome.

    Amazing work on these all-around.

    1. Thanks Thor, and it was surprisingly easy to do the skin, it just requires significant restraint to do it.

  3. I'm not a fan of the naked dwarfs but I think the blue skin works really well. The bases really set them off too.

    1. They've got kilts to hide their modesty at least. I think the Dwarf airship dudes are definitely more interesting, maybe they'll have a warband one day...?

  4. These really are glorious! I love the black skin, and it contrasts so well with the hair and gold & brass. Top job!

    1. I just always knew I wanted to do things a little differently on these. Sure anything AoS is different than what I normally do but I wanted something that looks different too. I'm not quite as adventurous as you were with the Gobbo/Skaven, maybe I'll get there in the end, but painting wise I could have a play.
