Unsurprisingly this went some way to breaking up the decals, to such an extent they barely register in some places. It's only when you look closer that you see what they're meant to be.
As per usual this was a mix of sponging and freehanding the scratches. The sponging creates the random damage, with the freehand joining some together for greater damage and interest.
Throw in multiple scratches and gouges and we get quite the beaten G.O.D. engine.
Add some sepia washes for additional rust streak to embed the damage. I also freehanded some text next to the blue Knight badge. Helping to make it consistent with the other quarters.
Damage on the thigh plates helped to draw them into the background a bit. Some thinned Basilicanum Grey helped tone down the white too. Damage on the white chevrons create a diffusion pattern so it's much harder to notice the inconsistencies in their size and distribution.
I still think a black cog would have been better but this is far less imposing. I also think the blue cog was unnecessary. It really needs a small red badge in the front half of the armour panel to balance it, but I can't bring myself to do it now.
So, Blessed Verdigris 🗽next, some more lense details, glow FX on the void shields, eyes, sort the base and varnish and then it's done! 🥳

Man, the weathering really pulls the whole paintjob together! Not that much more to do!
ReplyDeleteIt's like magic! And you're right so little left to do. I can't quite grasp how quickly this has come together. The longest part has probably been the decals! And if I'd not started with a silver skeleton it would have been quicker.
DeleteThe only downside is that having immediately jumped onto the stretch goal Warlord, has wiped out any serotonin hit I'm getting with this one. And I doubt this extra titan will be finished by the end of the month so even that could feel underwhelming.
However, it does give me advance warning of how to tackle my Cerastus Knights...
That's a great looking engine. The heraldry really fits the piece and the weathering totally pulls it all together. Great job marking things up with the battle damage.
ReplyDeleteThanks DAM, it's definitely been up and down in emotions. There was me thinking it would be plain sailing when it's a challenge but also super quick. Maybe that's why it's slightly overwhelming - the speed of the project despite the whirlwind of emotions.
DeleteOf course I thought throwing on the second Warlord would be the right thing to do because I was on such a roll. What I didn't count on is that I might go through the same range of emotions in the process? I'll get there in the end though!
