I think perhaps its a way to add content to their social feed and build anticipation for Parade day, or days in their case. Liverpool will be hosting Youngbloods one weekend, Team the next, then Armies without a base and finally Armies on Terrain the last one.
In truth I may not have a lot of terrain on my board, but I don't parade without one. I've seen a lot of great hobby shared on their WiP Wednesday posts recently. I suspect the competition will be quite fierce this year, there have been strong scratch built boards in previous years.
But, I've said many times the competition is not what interests me. It is about parading my hobby efforts and this time around everything will be new to the parade. Or, in the case of my Warriors, have been newly repainted. So, although the Warriors have been on display before they've never been in-store in their current finish.
As far as I recall anyway. Some bits were in my 2021 online entry, but nothing Tyranid has ever been in Liverpool, Wigan, or Manchester even [unless my Genestealers in the Genestealer Cult/Deathwatch Parade counts?]
Anyway, I'm really happy with my efforts. Not too much to fill the board, although this is a bigger area than I'll have on Parade Day.
But enough models to be interesting and some room for my Tyranid VSG. It was a shame I couldn't get the Kill team Typhon terrain. It's available directly from GW now, for £42.50 but I just couldn't justify that price for what you get. Not when there are quite a few 3D printed capillary tower sets available where you get more terrain for much less cost.
Sadly not legit to go in the Parade but something that may well grace our games eventually. Until then I will happily receive my 'participation' medal. I mean this thing is awesome. With a medal like this I just don't understand why there needs to be a competition.
I can't imagine anything more fitting than if the day was just come, parade your army and then everyone walks away with one of these. Calling each army's owner up to accept their medal to a round of applause. Of course if I finally walk away with a bronze medal I won't be complaining. But I'd trade that gap in my collection to have this one hobby event purely about participation rather than competition. Regardless, bring on 1st November for Armies on terrain Parade Day. Although, they're moving store on 20th September so that will be exciting too!
The Nids look amazing all put together like this! The medal looks quite nice as well.
