Afternoon #WarhammerCommunity it's the fourth of #DreadTober2026 and I've been #PaintingWarhammer and this is a quick update of some progress this last week. I actually have done a lot more than this since I took these pics. basically this is just the sepia/soft tone wash on the metallics and thinned Basilicanum Grey Contrast on the grey areas.
It's worth noting though that the grey primer I used on the armour plates is borderline gloss, rather than matt or even satin. Therefore adding water to the contrast paint makes it almost hydrophobic - pooling and not settling as it should.
Luckily contrast is rather sticky in its undiluted form so I would blob on some more paint to get the coverage and then use a paper towel to wick away the excess while still tinting the underlying grey. Or I would scrunch and dab, which would create a mottled pattern to the shading. And I would run my finger across any corners, which would make them almost 100% highlighted by removing all the contrast paint on the edge.
I also added the heraldry stripes on the blue carapace. Once again using masking tape and then pencilling the edges. Rather than just eyeballing it. So although it might technically be perfect it looks like the lines converge a bit.
I'll have a further update on Monday. But I did have a really weird decision making event where I though decals should be the next thing to do - before any highlights! It would definitely obscure the concerns I had with the chevrons and I thought I'd then only have to highlight around the decals. So I glossed some panels started adding decals and then promptly decided that was enough and I should really do some highlights. You'll see next week...
Afternoon #WarhammerCommunity it's the third of #DreadTober2026 and I've been #PaintingWarhammer I wasn't bluffing when I said I'd managed to get my head back in the game! You can see I got all the Retributor Armour highlights on the brassy/bronze metallics.
I also bit the bullet and added the armour plates on too. Then picked out the various colours. The yellow areas had Instar Vintage-17 which is an equivalent of Macharious Solar Orange.
Then the yellow is IV-16, and Iyanden Dark Sun equivalent. It's amazing how beige it looks in the bottle but how yellow it goes on the model.
Everything has since had a sepia/AP Soft Tone wash to tone down the metallics and blend some of the transitions or add shadows. All thee weapons were done to, all 10 of them and the heads.
When I took the Warhound pics I hadn't done anything to the Porphyrions. So I decided to do all the planned yellow areas and this is after the shade washes.
I don't know how I'm going to reconcile the chevrons on the legs.
Especially as they wrap around the legs of the knight on the right.
But I love the choices I've made and will find a way to make them work.
What I've also discovered is previously the Warhounds were worth just 5 hobby points each! Despite them being on 80mm bases, where the 5pt category is up to 70mm. The spare 6 weapons are another 6 points and the Porphyrions are 5pts each. So, this will be worth 26 points when done, but I do feel a little robbed, but what can you do?
Afternoon #WarhammerCommunity it's the second of #DreadTober2026 and this may not look like progress but I've actually done all the VGC Hammered Copper highlights. I'd taken a hit to the motivation by losing the heads for the Warhounds but I thought there was still value in pressing on with the copper. I had hoped to do the Retributor Armour highlights too, but I actually had an early night instead. It's really hard to balance DreadTober with my Season goal to get more sleep!
Still, I will get the Retributor armour done tonight and maybe also add the shade wash and pick out the armour colours. That might bring me back on track.
I also got all 10 weapons highlighted and primed some of the armour plates. They were a little behind but I'll bring them up to speed before the weekend.
The Porphyrions are highlighted too and the process at least made me feel much less worried about getting these done too. I hope I've not jinxed myself there.
But despite my initial concerns over how much detail is on them this came together really quickly, so I have revised hope they can progress swifter than I'd imagined.
Afternoon #WarhammerCommunity it's the first of #DreadTober2026 and I need to crack on with my Adeptus Titanicus Warhound Titans pledge. Having recently finished my Cerastus Knights I'm somewhat burnt out hobby-wise. So 2 Warhounds may seem like a relatively small pledge, compared to 2 AT Warlord Titans for DreadTober 2025 but I'm still not sure it's doable with my current level of hobby mojo. Hopefully, the community spirit will provide the fuel to get me going.
Even so, I know my hobby pace and I'd already built and [mostly] primed the titans months ago, ready to be picked back up in October. Firstly I wanted to adjust the pose, so I started with one leg.
I cut off the top thigh and used flower arranging wire to extend the piston behind the knee.
I then drilled a hole through the hip sockets and waist. This was to allow the wire to pass between legs and waist and provide a solid structure for it all to be glued to. I will then fill the gap with some modelling material. I think I just went with tile adhesive/grout rather than kneed some green stuff or Milliput together.
I constructed a base with cork. Smoothed it was tile adhesive and added crackle paint for the titan impact.
I like doing these sorts of bases but they do delay things a bit - extra construction work. But it was months ago so doesn't really matter now . Sorry about the blurred pic.
But, as it was last Hobby Season I get a belated Great Big Chrome 'BIG BUILD' Stamp of Approval.
But the bases had not been painted, so my Red Planet BASE! 🔴 got done. I had mistakenly done a lot of the AP Rough Iron, which has been caught by the drybrushing.
Hopefully that'll be covered up by further metallic highlights but we'll see.
What worries me though is I have not primed the missing armour plates or heads. I have the sprue and could just do it but I know I have some already primed, basecoated and with the metallics done.
I did them at the same time as my last Warhounds because they were spare, just in the off chance I ever did some more. Now that situation has come up and I'm not entirely sure where those bits are! Typical!
In the mean time though I get my first Great Big Amber 'BIG BUILD' BASE Stamp of Approval of the season.
I also have a stretch goal of 2 Adeptus Titanicus Acastus Knight Porphyrions. Again these were secret squirrel projects that I was saving for DreadTober.
And the last of my Great Big Chrome 'BIG BUILD' Stamps of Approval.
Built and primed in March for completion in DreadTober 🤞 I did realise that keeping the guns separate would be easier, but only after I glued one set on.
I think when I was doing the Red Planet BASE! 🔴 on my Cerastus Knights I also did these at the same time.
Obviously there are still bits to do. I want to try and do the marble effect on these similar to my Red Marble Display Board 🔴.
There is so much detail on these knights, I have certain amount of dread [pun unintended but I'm embracing it now I spotted it] in painting them.
As stretch goal go they seem easy as they're not that big. And I've been surprised how quickly epic scale knights come together. But something about these worry me.
So, despite all the planning and headstart in getting both the Warhounds and knights to a point I think is achievable...
For now I'm still giving myself my last belated Great Big Chrome 'BIG BUILD' BASE Stamp of Approval. And I'll give them a Great Big Amber one too when I do the marble bit, because I can 😝
Afternoon #Warhammer Community I've been #PaintingWarhammer on the Cerastus Knights. And they are TO DONE! Here are the white background pics, I already had someone asking for them after I shared pics of the Acheron on my Ferron Proxima backdrop. AI did help in in visualising the Tempest Power Sword.
There's not a lot to add to what I've already said except when I get to some of the close-ups so just enjoy.
The blessed verdigris 🗽 on the ammo box 😍 Although, I had seen one that was painted red, which would have been nice and mirrored the Acheron's yellow fuel tanks.
I used Daler Rowney white ink for the brightest glow effect. It's much easier to control than thinning white paint, so I was very happy [although missed it in a couple of places].
The kneepad had another Deathwing decal quote.
I think the amount of battle damage on the fuel tanks did help mitigate my feeling that it needed some red warning labels. They still could have been cool but I made it very busy anyway.
I used Vernidas again to fill the dials. Some UV resin would have worked here, I need to get some.
The fuel cable is pretty cool.
I didn't use Tamiya Clear on the lenses. I think if they'd been bigger it would have helped but if I had they've have been much darker and harder to see.
I love the blade scratches.
I had serious doubts on the foot and shin colours but I am over the moon. So much so that I may consider more painted toes in future.
I painted the inside of the carapace vent so you can see the glow from the back.
You will hardly see the plasma generator through the slots when I finish the cockpit, but it shows a bit.
So many details that I love about both of these Cerastus knights.
There are definitely areas that could have been improved, or even space for more detailing but I'm so satisfied they're finally done and seeing them next to my other knights will be an absolute treat.
