Battle Record - Bolt Action 30/04/26

Afternoon and I'm finally back at Otty's shed after 3 weeks away, and we're playing Bolt Action. Liam and Otty have been building a new board, terrain and armies to play as the SAS Rogue Heroes from WWII. It's been an ongoing project in the background for months, maybe even a year.

But they only just got round to setting it all up and giving it a go, and it looks great! A Realm of Battle board has been repainted as a desert setting and a bunch of 3D printed terrain pieces look so great.

Meanwhile, Ben has been working on expanding his terrain for Foy, where some of the battles in Band of Brothers took places. Liam printed some buildings that are actually based on real structures from that period.

Liam is running the SAS with the help of some armour.

While Otty has an eclectic Italian army.

A lot of vehicles got blown up so we got a little carried away with the explosions.

But as I've always maintained Bolt Action makes such cinematic photographs - they always look so good.

Tanks and vehicles are surprisingly vulnerable. When they go, they go. However I did notice that although it is relatively easy to hit you target, unless you're point blank, wounding them is often on 5's.

So, a good round of shooting results in one or 2 casualties if you're lucky. It doesn't always feel productive.

And close combat can be completely brutal with a 10 man squad of Italian infantry being wiped out by 5 SAS defending their building.

The explosion markers are really good, some flicker and some have coloured LEDs and a remote control!

Even the toy palm trees, with no painting at all, look great on the board.

I pointed out this looks more like Fallout with its mushroom clouds than WWII!

The terrain looks so good. I wish I was able to do stuff like this. Although project has been underway for months I'm pretty certain these buildings and walls were just a couple weeks work.

We may have another week off next week as Otty is working. We'll see if we can postpone to the Sunday instead but I've really missed gaming

And these crazy guys.

Battle record - Bolt Action - Operation Sealion - 31/08/25

Afternoon #Warhammer Community I've been trying out different game systems with a game of Bolt Action. Ben has been working for months on an Operation Sealion board. This allows you to play Bolt Action in the setting of Dad's Army, the classic British comedy about the Home Guard in World War 2. Having not finished the game from the previous week we decided to crack on. A mistake in some ways as the invaders had suffered a lot of casualties and Dad's Army was in a strong position. But they fought hard, making the win difficult. Rarely getting their black order dice pulled ahead of our green dice left them at even more of a disadvantage. But we still had a lot of fun, with the game over far too soon.

Battle record - Bolt Action - Operation Sealion - 21/08/25

Afternoon #Warhammer Community I've been trying out different game systems with a game of Bolt Action. Ben has been working for months on an Operation Sealion board. This allows you to play Bolt Action in the setting of Dad's Army, the classic British comedy about the Home Guard in World War 2. I'm calling this a battle record, but it's almost a battle report because I've shared some of what happened. It doesn't matter, just enjoy.

This is the board set up.

And I did a little video so you can see things closer, including some of the amazing miniatures representing the characters in the show.

Not to mention the local cricket team, boy scout troop.

Various other locals, and some not so local! 😮

The church, complete with stained glass windows and flickering candle light inside.

Beautiful Weston!

I won't go into detail but it was table quarters, with points for being in your opponents and the neutral ones.

Our air cover did really will, putting loads of pin markers on the invading force and killing a fair few.

But in response this German tank pivoted and drove over the Walmington on Sea first eleven!

It carried on it's horrific rampage through Marge Alssop's front garden, crushing the crew and weapons of two light Howitzers!

The horrors further compounded by the local villagers being burnt to a crisp in the graveyard of the local church - it's Holy Ground

Meanwhile, our spotters in the church discovered Sister Mary Francis was in fact a German spy.

A vicious gun fight ensued but he/she evaded fire. Then spotting the local scout troop through the window they shot them point blank and killed the lot of them.

The Home Guard finally got onto the battlefield.

Private Pike was a beast with the light machine gun. And the medic managed to save 2 out of 3 lives [on 6's]

Chief Warden Hodges led the defence of our quarter.

I think this is a Humber, and it sped on shooting the tank in its rear armour.

Blowing it up. "Howzat! For the first-eleven."

The dastardly nun eventually met their demise.

We had so much fun playing this. It's been a passion project for Ben months. He was talking about last year I think and he spent so much time getting the terrain painted and all the locals.

I can't believe how lucky I am to get to spend time with these guys, throw dice, drink tea [and amazing flapjack's courtesy of Ben's wife].

Thursday's are the best!

Battle record - Bolt Action 2 - 10/07/25

Afternoon #Warhammer Community I've been trying out different game systems with a game of Bolt Action. I have very little recollection of what happened, so, it's a battle record.

Stug trying to outflank

Not a tank arrives from reserve.

Targets Stug, fires, no more Stug! 💥

Field gun with no pin markers thanks to an 'insane bravery' test! 😎
