Dark Angels - Lava swords, molten metal blades etc.

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I finished #PaintingWarhammer on my Deathwing, but just wanted to show some unseen WiPs of the lava blades. I started with Valejo Game Extra Opaque Heavy Red.

Then I stippled on some dark orange in places, then some Troll Slayer Orange.

It was the same for the unnecessary Bolter Bayonet.

I mean this was just super easy with very little thought to it.

So much so that when I added VGC Orange Fire it felt like it was painting itself

From here I just wanted to add some yellow.

And with VGC Sun Yellow stippled at the ends they were done.

Now a light drybrush of black in some places, perhaps the odd black dot in others would help on a bigger blade. But the Lightning Claws were already quite small, so I didn't want to confuse things.

Not sure I got the effect in the right places here but even so I was super chuffed with the results. Enough to recommend giving it a go.

I know I was tentative, despite trying this effect a few times already. If you have doubts, don't. Just give it a go, you'll be surprised how easy it is.

Dark Angels - Deathwing Strikemaster #SwordsAsWalkingSticks - TO DONE!

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my Deathwing Strikemaster. Now I don't know if this exists anymore but either way - SURPRISE! Yes this model has been kept secret all along [well I mentioned it a little bit in my Hobby Season review] because, well I'm doing the classic Dark Angel pose of 'swords as walking sticks'.

A pose I've openly been aghast/against/agape[?] since I realised it had become nearly as cliche as 'tactical rocks'. Sure the original fantasy art trope looks cool, but power swords? C'mon, you'd be hilt deep with it turned on!

So I've been fixing things as Carl Fredriksen did in UP! by putting little tennis balls on the end of Citadel's myriad models for years. So many to do I actually didn't have time to keep up!

But with my own version I had to 'try' and sculpt the squished tennis ball. Which is far from perfect. I bet there's an ideal 3D model I could have used but this was the best I could do.

It's a bit too deflated but I'm doing a joke Warhammer 40k miniature - perfection is not part of the requirements.

This was so long ago that I made it I actually get a Great Big Big Build BLESSED VERDIGRIS Stamp of Approval!

Then I went on to prime and paint the base, with the rest of the Terminators last February.

Which gets me a Great Big Big Build BASE RUSTY Stamp of Approval.

So, the third season I got into painting all the basecoats and metallics.

Highlights on the bone white.

Blessed Verdigris. At this stage I am still debating, alongside the other power weapons, how I was going to paint the Power Sword.

The conclusion I came to was to try to replicate the Swarmlord Bonesabres and sword from my Undwerworld's Steelheart's Champions, but in read rather than turquoise.

And here we ended up...

Now I have to admit, although I thought I did a fair decent attempt to replicate what I'd done previously.

I was not impressed with the end result on the sword.

So much so that it prompted me to do the remaining weapons in the molten metal effect, which I was super happy with.

I don't know what it is about the red that doesn't work for me but it just doesn't.

On top of that the plan was to perfect this so I could replicate it for the Lion's sword. But I'm now thinking I'll be better off with molten metal. I'm more confident with it, enjoy the process more and the results are better. Lorewise I'm not so sure, but it's a small price to pay to be happy with the finished article.

Anyway a Bloody Great Big Bloody Stamp of Bloody Approval!

Dark Angels - Deathwing Knights and Terminators - WHITE PICS ⚪

Morning #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my 16 Deathwing. And here we have the pics on white background for the connoisseurs.

I had to fall back on Camera360 for my red pics, my recent app Ektachrome, that recreates digital pics in the style of Fuji Velvia film no longer works. Really annoying.

Anyway, back to the miniatures themselves. These were quite the challenge to do, my spreadsheet had 460 elements to paint.

Some were more complex than that or bundled together but it became an absolute mission to get them done.

And here we have all 10 Deathwing Knights together. I put far more final highlight on the newer ones but they're still relatively consistent despite the years separating them.

The assault squad.

If you recall my head close-ups I was somewhat disappointed but I genuinely think they look awesome in situ.

Some additional litany scripts on the back of the banners so they were still quite interesting.

Lovely molten metal lightning claws.

So pleased with these 2 guys, bags of character with only limited adjustment to the models aside for head choice and how they were posed on their tactical rocks.

And this guy with his Deathwatch arm. Nice to dip back into that squad. I'll also say the black string on his Storm Shield is in reference to Deathwatch , but it's just a happy accident.

These guys are so cool. Can't believe how good they came out.

It would have been nice to have one of them in a slightly different pose than 'come at me' but pleased nonetheless.

Command guys and heavy weapons.

I love the Plasma Cannon and should I ever play Space Hulk I'll need the Flamer.

But the Champion is pretty cool with the halberd.

Plasma glow was not my best ever but it'll do. I tried Dirty Down Rust on his base again. Some improved success this time.

32 year's in the making for the Grey Knight lightning claw terminator. Finally done!

And there we go. Hope you enjoyed these. There's a little something else to come as anyone who's even partially good at maths will see there are 3 squads of 5, which adds up to 15 Terminators. But if you go back to the beginning you will see I said there are 16 TO DONE! I've one more to share, but it is everything from prime to varnish... it's been a secret all this time.
