'nids part 364 - Leviathan bone

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my Leviathan Tyranids this has been a slow process over the last few months and even then limited progress. The Neurotyrant has just had it's bone applied.

But I also spotted a chitinous armour plate on its back that needs to be blue, you can just make out how bright it is - that will need shading.

OMG how tedious are Von Ryan's Leapers? All the detail of a Lictor [and more] squashed into a 33% smaller model.

Genuinely these made me rethink  how 'easy' I thought my Tyranid scheme was. It's another reason why I've not been painting much recently.

The tedium and endless detail just killed my mojo. That said, I bet Contrast paints work amazingly well on these...

What's worse though is I did get issue 2 of Combat Patrol and now I have another 3 of these to build and try to catch up as I dare not think about doing another 3 down the line when these are completed. I may as well get the paint out of the way now.

And the Barbgaunts weren't much better, makes me wonder why I'm doing 'nids for DreadTober.

And lastly the Winged Prime, but he's got his second layer of bone highlights.

Only marginally more entertaining. How many times have I heard people say painting shouldn't be a chore? Sure, I've not been painting recently because this was chore-like but eventually you have to wade through this and overcome.

Who knows when I will be motivated to finish these off but 'progress is progress'!

'nids part 363 - Leviathan bases and basecoats

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my Leviathan Tyranids but this was from the beginning of July! I shaded them alongside my Adeptus Titanicus Lancers

Now I'm starting their highlights but it was handy to have done this menial task to help streamline the next stage.

But on top of that I also did the bases as well. Still to do the bonewhite chips but that's a later step.

Von Ryan's Leapers, and I;ve just discovered the new Combat Patrol magazine has another 3 of these in issue 2, so if I can get that there'll be another 3 to add to the brood.

Alternatively I could add the old Lictors as they're almost the same size now. My Deathleaper and painted Lictor with this one makes a full brood of 6! Not that I'll ever play them! 😂

While I still can, here's a whole bunch of Bloody Great Big Bloody BASE Stamps of Bloody Approval

'nids part 348 - Tyranid Leviathan - BIG BUILD BASE TO DONE!

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my #New40k Leviathan box set. As usual, just getting the Red Planet BASE! 🔴 TO DONE!

First up the Psychophage.

NeuroTyrant and Neuroloids.

Screamer Killer

and Screamer Killer 2.0. Everything else hadn't been based so hadn't been primed and if I'm honest I rushed these and the red primer was a bit chalky in places, as you can just make out.

Despite this, I get the Great Big RUSTY Big Build Base Stamp of Approval for the basing!

And with a bit of concerted effort during a week's leave off work - I went on to base the Termagants

All 20 of them.

The Neurogaunts too.
And the Barbgaunts,
Von Ryan's Leapers, and
The Winged Tyranid Prime...
Oh, and an old Lictor I'd reposed years ago, thought I might as well throw it in the mix.

Great Big Big Build RUSTY Stamp of Approval for the build.

'nids part 210 - Lictor remodelling 1 - The Great Build part 5 - TO DONE!

Having settled on my Ravenwing as my 'projet du jour', it was clear I had to go off list. Technically the Lictor is on my Great Build list so I'm not too bad. Now, we all know the Lictor pose is pretty static and with five of them in the Forest Brood and Assassin Brood they'd all look pretty unispired without re-posing - there's only so much you can do with those arms and talons. Which lead to this... Now I know the pose is a bit goofy, that left hoof could do with pointing back [like the old skool Genestealers], but this is still potentially possible. I must say the pose looks more 'unnatural' in the pics than it does in real life. The sinuous flow that should be there is mroe evident but even so the pose could have been better.

However, I like to do things quick and dirty, with the least amount of green-stuff/Milliput. If I can get away with pins and super glue gel I will. For instance you cna even see the right leg, in particular the middle section - that's on back to front! In reality it should be the other way around with all sortd of sculpted ribbing streching the joints between the ankle and thigh connections. However, turning it round cleared up that issue and gave the leg extension I was after without any sculpting requirement.

I also pinned his hoof join but didn't trust the strength so added superglue and two chunks of florist wire to add strength, whether it works is anyones guess. It's not perfect, I know, but he's been sat in a box for a year or two, now he's built and different. He almost looks like a baby Dimachaeron here.

Actually, I just realised the pose isn't a million miles away from the Fulgrim pose, so if it's good enough for Forgeworld...

He won't be used very often so branching out into something more dynamic/scenic, even with it's flaws is something I can at least live with if not be chuffed with. Now, what about the other three? BIG PURPLE STAMP!

'nids part 170 - Lictor Pride

As I said in Deathleapers post I'm not accepting this 'Lictor Shame' title I'm Lictor and I'm proud! I think the truth is almost any 'nid player will say they think Lictors are awesome - the model, the fluff and just barely the rules.

I know they're useful but I don't think rules-wise they even approach how highly regarded they are in the other aspects.

To this end why should we be made to feel bad at taking arguably the coolest bioform in our arsenal?

So I have two completed, I can always proxy in my Broodlords to make a Forest Brood or Warriors to make Deathleaper's Assassins. I've another one hiding in the detritus of my hobby paraphernalia but he will reveal himself eventually.

I've still to secure the remaining three to complete the datasheet options but there's no hurry with available proxy alternatives.

If I was using them at Blog Wars limited proxies are allowed and should we be looking to go to Throne of Skulls anytime soon I'll create my army list around models that I have.

I still think the standard Lictor head looks a lot better than Deathleaper. His tentacled maw came out really well and the single pair of eyes manage to be far more menacing.

I'm quite surprised how little variance there is between these two models. They're nearly 12 months apart but it doesn't really show. I think I've finally reached a point that the colour scheme is uniform and repeatable.

There are still those early Termagants that look different from the current scheme but I can live with that, it all adds to the fluff of Hive Fleet Gorgon.

I'm really looking forward to playing around more with the weathering powders.

Them's some big talons.

Close ups of the spotty carapace.

I've only got the cultists and objective markers on my list of nids to potter on with alongside the primary focus of the Dark Angels. However, I am planning on doing all the bases for the Genestealers and third Carnifex. I'm not painting them I'm just getting stuff  done ahead of when I've got opportunity to crack on with them.
