To Do List 2021/22

Afternoon #warmongers and #warhammercommunity having covered my achievements over the past hobby season, it's now that I look forward to the new one.

As usual my list is pretty much everything I still haven't completed from previous seasons. But, as you saw from last season's review I blitzed a fair few of those projects. In fact, apart from the Tyranid Promethium Relay Pipes I finished every bit of bug related TO DO's I set myself. Luckily, I have some more I can come up with now the decks are clear. I'm also adding numerous items that were WiP from last season. Anything in bold is a priority, everything else is nice to have.

However, I'm going to be mainly going with the flow, real life is still very much the priority so I need to focus on these two…
  1. Develop a more healthy hobby/life balance - go to bed at a decent hour[ish]
  2. Find time to play some games, so I can have some fun among the daily grind...
This is a tough one considering, we still have no idea about COVID and I am at the mercy of my gaming crew on how we can meet up and arrange these things. Where possible I will snatch these opportunities up though.
But for my Dark Angels I'll be looking at these:
  1. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Talonmaster
  2. Dark Angel - 3 x Ravenwing Attack Bike[s]
  3. Dark Angel - 3 x Ravenwing Black Knights
  4. Dark Angel - Old skool Crayola Whirlwind
  5. Dark Angel - Proteus Land Raider
The remaining nid and terrain based items are these:
  1. Genestealer Cult Sentinels
  2. Tyranid Promethium Relay Pipes
  3. Tyranid Warriors
My other 2021/22 WiPs that I want to tackle and get done:
  1. 2 x Armiger Helverins [Dreadtober 2021]
  2. Halfling Blood Bowl Team
  3. Orc Blood Bowl Team
  4. Blood Bowl Troll
  5. Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Titan
  6. Adeptus Titanicus Warhound Titans
  7. Death Guard Kill Team
  8. TT Combat terrain
  9. Sector Imperialis terrain
Pipe dream items - these are things that have been on my list and in all honesty I'm not likely to tackle this year [or any other...] but I do not want them forgotten so I'll just note them as things I'll eventually do, one day:
  1. Tyranid Bastion Crater [I have zero intent to do this this season, if ever, just want to remind myself it exists]
The Big Build will continue this season. Still a lot of what was not complete from previous lists but  the principle is sound and pays dividends with those items that tend to be off-list that get built through to painting and completion.
  • Ravenwing bikes
  • Dark Angel Crayola Whirlwind
  • Build some new terrain?
    • Shrine of the Aquila
    • Galvanic Magnavent
  • Remaining Deathwing Terminators
  • Genestealer Cult Neophytes
  • Genestealer Cult Acolytes
Some of the previous season's Big Build items that I never got round to and are highly unlikely but thought I'd just add them in secondary list for records:
  • Space Hulk Genestealers - get them based!
  • 3 Tyranid Lictors
  • 3 Tyranid Warriors (it was actually 5)
  • 3 Tyranid Shrikes
  • 5 Dark Angel Veterans/Command Squad
So that's me for 2021/22 again a lot for me, especially when you take into account I need to continue to balance things more. Also worth noting - zero from my Indomitus boxset - remind me, why on Earth did I get that? All the best for your own efforts this season.

The 2021/22 Hobby Season starts soon, join me!

Afternoon #warmongers and #warhammercommunity the 2021/22 hobby season will be starting soon so for those alumni who joined in last season it's time to start looking back at your TO DO lists - at what you've TO DONE!, what might have slipped and those lovely unexpected successes that happened despite life getting in the way and loss of mojo - I speak from experience [yet again].

The original plan when I started with 'great big stamps of approval' was that I wouldn't do multi-coloured stamps, just alternate between red and green, but who was I kidding? The 2019/20 season felt like a bit of a bust and I loved the Great Big GALACTIC Stamp of Approval I had originally planned to resurrect it for 2021/22, after coming up with the Great Big GRANITE Stamp of Approval for the 2020/21 season. But once again I couldn't help myself and there'd been one glaring ommission from my choice of materials Great Big Stamps of Approval... So I give you the official 40kaddict 2020/21 Great Big BLESSED VERDIGRIS Stamp of Approval! That's right folks, favourite weathered copper, brass and bronze is going to mark our every success. Not only that there are 3 subtle shades of blessed verdigris, some with more patina. So if you like the Major and Minor stamps you will got variety, or if you adopt the Big Build you can get the same, Feel free to download and use them on your blog as and when you get stuff  'TO DONE!'

Or you can record your achievements with an 'unbranded' version.

And should you feel inclined to differentiate your efforts yet further here 's the major goal stamps

And minor goals [which I actually found a use for last season].

And I also got the Big Build...

and Base [and obviously Prime] Stamps done too. I heartily recommend this video from Tabletop Minions to understand where I was going with the 'Big Build' concept, he's touched on and expanded exactly why I created this a few years back.

Just a reminder of what it's about, in 2011 I made my first To Do List, amusingly it now looks like this:
  • AoBR Tactical Squad
  • AoBR Dreadnought
  • AoBR Terminators
  • Scout Squad
  • Ravenwing bike squad
  • Dark Angel Drop Pod
  • Purity Seal all of my son's Tyranids
  • Gloss Varnish all of my son's Tyranids
  • Tyranid Prime
  • Mycetic Spore
  • Paint Vent Tower
  • Paint defence platforms x4
  • Complete pot pourri vegetation
  • Complete future containers
  • Complete 40k Cathedral tower
  • STC Single story ruin
  • STC Hex Defence platforms
  • STC Targus Assault Blockade
  • STC Vent tower
  • STC Athena plateau
  • STC Mercury plateau
  • STC 40k Cathedral tower
  • 60mm Dreadnought crater
So 4 things still haven't been done and quite frankly never will ;) . The purpose was to try to focus my efforts to outline a list of things I'd love to do over a twelve month period and if I achieved any of them great, all of them, so much better. But more importantly I needed a structure to cling to when my efforts became aimless. That's not to say deviations from the list were forbidden it was more for when I went 'well what's next?'

It became an annual blog post to review what I'd done and set new tasks. Throughout the season I would reveal my 'To Dones!' as completed items both on and off the list. Showcase posts are nothing new to hobby blogs but again it was a structure to help build the identity of this blog. Then, in 2014 I invited readers and passers-by of the blog to join in. Well, when you have a good idea why not share it around? I got about 10 people joining in and it looked like we were quite a supportive little bunch. I think over time steam ran out a little bit, but folk continue to join in each season and hopefully the same will ring true for 2021/22.

To help things out a bit I've created a Hobby Season Facebook group, it's here:

So, if you're joining in just ask and I'll add you into the group, that way you can share your blog posts or any efforts to those also joining in. I hope this platform will allow more interaction for those taking part and keep us all motivated.

I guess the last question is why 28th August as the start/end date, why not January 1st?
I think back in 2011 it was at that time I thought a structure needed to be in place and it was as good a time as any to post a To Do List, afterall the footy season starts around this time too, no one complains about that, do they?

Anyway, 28th August join me for the new Hobby Season :)

To Do List 2019/20

Having covered my achievements over the past season it's now that I look forward to the new one.

As usual my list is pretty much everything I still haven't completed from previous seasons. In fact this is almost a copy/paste from last years post! But I am working through these each year so the system does work. I've added a few new things though so there are some surprises to look forward to. Anything in bold is a priority, everything else is nice to have.

However, I'm going to be mainly going with the flow, real life is still very much the priority so I need to focus on these two…
  1. Develop a more healthy hobby/life balance - go to bed at a decent hour[ish]
  2. Find time to play some games, not just tournament play so I can have some fun among the daily grind...
But for my Dark Angels I'll be looking at these:
  1. Dreadtober - Redemptor Dreadnought
  2. Dark Angel - Deathwing Knights
  3. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Attack Bike[s]
  4. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Bikes [I might convert these to Black Knights]
  5. Dark Angel - Macragge Tactical Squad
  6. Dark Angel - Deathwing Land Raider
The remaining nid and terrain based items are these:
  1. Genestealer Cult Abberants [get them painted - have some fun]
  2. Genestealer Cult Acolyte Iconward
  3. 2 Tyranid Hive Guard
  4. 4 Tyranid Rippers
  5. 2 sets of Ferron Fire Firs - paint.
  6. Tyranid Void Shield Generator [it hasn't had any progress for a while, I just need to do more, even if it's just as a terrain piece, although unrealistic in the face of other projects]
  7. Blood Bowl Humans
  8. Blood Bowl Orks [? yeah not likely but if I can get the hoomies done maybe...]
  9. Shadespire warbands - I've moved these lower down as I'm not sure there are any that interest me. I do find them a joy to paint and I've learned new skills doing them but if I want some variety the Blood Bowl Humans and Orks should come first [cos I quite fancy some Halflings too...].
Pipe dream items - these are things that have been on my list and in all honesty I'm not likely to tackle this year [or any other...] but I do not want them forgotten so I'll just note them as things I'll eventually do, one day:
  1. Tyranid Promethium Relay Pipes
  2. Dark Angel - Aegis Defence Line [totally low down as most of the Fortifications suck game wise but it'd be nice to have some extra terrain pieces and I think it's actually the best value out of the pieces I have]
  • Ravenwing attack bikes
  • Ravenwing Talonmaster?

  • 3 Tyranid Warriors
  • 3 Tyranid Shrikes
  • 5 Dark Angel Veterans/Command Squad
  • Remaining Deathwing Terminators
So that's me for 2019/20 again a lot on my plate, especially when you take into account I need to balance things a little more. All the best for your own efforts this season.

To Do List 2018/19

Having covered my achievements over the past season it's now that I look forward to the new one.

Apologies but my list is pretty much everything I still haven't completed from previous seasons. But I am working through these each year so the system does work. I've added a few new things though so there are some surprises to look forward to. Obviously my recent purchase of Imperial Knights Renegade changed my plans, casting doubt on my ability to tackle some of my original projects, but we shall see. Anything in bold is a priority, everything else is nice to have.
  1. Develop a more healthy hobby/life balance - go to bed at a decent hour[ish], keeping a record might help [although tried it already for 2 months and it didn't]...
  2. Find time to play some games, not just tournament play...
  3. At least one new Imperial Knight [I might need this for GT4 in Feb] I'm working on two at once I think that's achievable by Feb as I did the Cerastus in 3 months and I think I've got most of the production issues down now. They should be straightforward after the metallics!
  4. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Dark Shroud
  5. Dreadtober - I don't know what, a Hive Tyrant or Imperial Knight [unlikely in a month] but I want to try and take part in this again I might not complete my goal but the participation might help.
  6. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Bikes [I might convert these to Black Knights]
  7. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Attack Bikes [I might need one of these for GT4 in Feb]
  8. Dark Angel - Deathwing Knights
  9. Dark Angel - Macragge Tactical Squad
The remaining nid and terrain based items are these:
  1. Some bits of Imperial terrain I have knocking about [Sanctum Imperialis, etc.] I could do with these for Armies on Parade but not holding my breath...
  2. Genestealer Cult Abberants [they're all the rage now and I don't even have to arm them all with Power Hammers!]
  3. 2 sets of Ferron Fire Firs - paint.
  4. Tyranid Void Shield Generator [it had some progress last season, I just need to do more, even if it's just as a terrain piece, although unrealistic in the face of other projects]
  5. Some Shadespire warbands
  6. Blood Bowl Humans
  7. Blood Bowl Orks [? yeah not likely but if I can get the hoomies done maybe...]
Pipe dream items - these are things that have been on my list and in all honesty I'm not likely to tackle this year but I do not want them forgotten so I'll just note them as things I'll eventually do, one day:
  1. Tyranid Promethium Relay Pipes

  • Ravenwing attack bikes
  • Ravenwing Talonmaster?
  • Imperial Knight [x2?]
  • More Ripper Swarms - 3 bases
  • 2 Tyranid Hive Guard kitbashes...
  • Space Hulk Genestealers - get them based!
  • 3 Tyranid Lictors
  • 3 Tyranid Warriors
  • 3 Tyranid Shrikes
  • 5 Dark Angel Veterans/Command Squad
  • Remaining Deathwing Terminators
  • Build some new terrain?
So that's me for 2018/19 I think I have quite a lot on my plate, especially when you take into account I need to balance things a little more. All the best for your own efforts this season.

The 2018/19 Hobby Season starts soon, join me!

The 2018/98 hobby season will be starting soon so for those alumni who joined in last year it might be cool to look back at your lists at what you've achieved , what might have slipped and those lovely unexpected successes that happened despite life getting in the way and loss of mojo - I speak from experience.

The original plan when I started with 'big stamps of approval' was that I wouldn't do multi-coloured stamps, just alternate between red and green but who was I kidding? So I give you the official 40kaddict 2018/19 Great Big Jade[ish] Stamp of Approval! I had chosen a much darker Teal[ish] colour but for the life of me I couldn't remember why I chose such a dour shade. So I switched to something brighter and although it's supposed to be jade does look a bit turquoise which matches the nids in a way. Feel free to download and use them on your blog as and when you get stuff  'TO DONE!'

Or you can record your achievements with an 'unbranded' version.

Hobby Season 2017/18 half way point

When I arbitrarily chose 28th August as the beginning/end of the Hobby Season I never realised that the half way point lands on my birthday. In truth I was going to recognise this coincidence last year but promptly forgot to write anything. So I just thought a little reminder a might reinvigorate everyone's efforts. Suffice to say I'm pretty happy with my current progress. In fact here's a sneak peak at the recently  completed Dark Angel Predator that I need to reveal when I get a gap in my schedule.

And my most recent completion (just last night in fact) , the 1984 Citadel Samurai for the Eavier Metal 20 year competition.

Unfortunately I haven't had time to create any freebie to gift on my birthday as I would  normally try to do. However, this Hobby Season reminder comes just as the weather might turn and hobby mojo might flourish as the Spring fecundity will bear fruit for us all. So get you paintbrushes out and your hobby on as those Great Big Gamboge Stamps of Approval aren't going to award themselves!

To Do List 2017/18

Having covered my achievements over the past season it's now that I look forward to the new one. If I'm honest the list is still in an embryonic stage. I've been so focused on what I've been doing on the last season I haven't thought much about the next one because I was running projects to the wire and I didn't know which season they'd be completed.

A lot of my list appears to be mainly Dark Angels, they're still my focus despite those Genestealer Cultists creeping into the mix at the end there. Anything in bold is a priority, everything else is nice to have
  1. Deathwatch Marines
  2. New Armies on Parade board
  3. Dark Angel - Predator
  4. Dark Angel - Razorback [I'll probably double team this with the Predator]
  5. Dark Angel - Deathwing Knights
  6. Dark Angel - Terminator Librarian
  7. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Dark Shroud
  8. Dark Angel - Ravenwing Bikes
  9. Dark Angel - Macragge Tactical Squad
  10. Dark Angel - Aegis Defence Line [totally low down as most of the Fortifications suck game wise but it'd be nice to have some extra terrain pieces and I think it's actually the best value out of the pieces I have]
The top two are to add to my Armies on Parade board, hence their priority status, although I suppose everything else is also valid. The Predator is something I like the idea of for the Warhammer World GT in February. They worked really well against my nids at the NWO, so both useful and on the list! The remaining nid and terrain based items are these:
  1. 2 sets of Ferron Fire Firs - base up and paint.
  2. Project Z?! Still a mystery project ;)
  3. Tyranid Void Shield Generator [it had some progress last season, I just need to do more, even if it's just as a terrain piece]
  4. Some bits of Imperial terrain I have knocking about [Sanctum Imperialis, etc.]
  5. Armorium containers STC
  2. Tyranid Bastion Crater [to a certain extent unnecessary as I use my digestion pit]
The Great Build has been downgraded to the Big Build this season. Still a lot of what was not complete from the last list but I think I did OK, the principle is sound and did pay dividends - the Assault Squad.
  • Ferron Fire Firs - new trees based and primed
  • 3 Tyranid Lictors
  • 3 Tyranid Warriors
  • 3 Tyranid Shrikes
  • 2 Tyranid Hive Guard kitbashes...
  • Tyranid Trygon
  • Ripper Swarms
  • 5 Dark Angel Veterans/Command Squad
  • Space Hulk Genestealers
  • Remaining Deathwing Terminators
  • Sanctum Impearialis
So that's me for 2017/18. I think overall a low key set of goals, and perhaps a little uninspiring given it's everything I didn't quite complete from last season, sorry. And I think even if I complete all the Imperium and Tyranid stuff I may well feel a little disappointed but as I say it's embryonic and may well evolve once Armies on Parade is done and the GT is bearing down... In the interim this will do and all the best for your own efforts this season.

The 2017/18 Hobby Season starts soon, join me!

The 2017/18 hobby season will be starting soon so for those alumni who joined in last year it might be cool to look back at your lists at what you've achieved , what might have slipped and those lovely unexpected successes that happened despite life getting in the way and loss of mojo - I speak from experience.

The original plan when I started with 'big stamps of approval' was that I wouldn't do multi-coloured stamps, just alternate between red and green but who was I kidding? So I give you the official 40kaddict 2017/18 Great Big Gamboge Stamp of Approval! I'm sure the choice of colour seems a bit leftfield but yellow and orange are my two favourite colours and this sits somewhere between the two. Sharp eyed may also spot the blogspot URL, not the www.40kaddict.uk version from last year. This is in part because that was on the hard drive that became corrupt. It may have been salvaged in my recovery but I haven't had chance to find a working version as yet and not had time to fix this beyond the colour swap, so we make do. As such the Great Build stamps aren't available but I'll see if I can find time to do them.

Or you can record your achievements with an 'unbranded' version.

And should you feel inclined todifferentiaite your efforts yet further here 's the major goal stamps

And minor goals.

Just a reminder of what it's about, in 2011 I made my first To Do List, amusingly it now looks like this:

  • 60mm Dreadnought crater
So 4 things still haven't been done.
