Moar of Otty's Inquisition force

Otty sent these through to the Facebook group again but not everyone wants to get their fix of the 40kaddict [such as it is these days :( ] through the book of face. So I'm sharing it here because they deserve the wider audience and right now I don't have any content anyway [sorry folks]! But do I love the effect on these shields!I'm enot sure if it's meant to be a marble effect or battle damage but they're fantastic.

As promised, here are some pics of LOTR witch king converted into inquisitional death cult assassins. These are 3 of ultimately 9. I'm still sticking to the plan to convert, and every model have some robes and metal on them. The plan for these is to assault out of an land raider redeemer. I am not convinced by the brass etched inquision eyes, I think perhaps freehand painted ones would have been better.

Personally I like the brass etch and it's really quite impressive how the Lord of the Rings models have been 'grimdarked' to fit into 40k. The simple addition of servo-skulls and bolt-pistols. These be-robed models could be easily integrated into a Dark Angels force, either as scouts or servitor/thralls

Anyway, lets hope Otty has some more stuff to share because I'm fresh out of juice, although I have my Blog Wars list to share...

Spawned Termagants

Whole lot of fun when that baby lands! ;)

Add in a Lictor so they land on target, maybe even buy 2 spawning baby carriages! I really must make up a Comms relay!

The sky is falling, let it rain!

Y'know the bit in South Park when someone goes to heaven only to be denied entrance because they chose the wrong faith and it turns out 'Mormons had it right all along'? Well out of all the third party casts of Mycetic Spores that came out who'd have thought that Mr Dandy would have been the one most on the money.

This looks so like the central core of the Sporocyst, you could easily add the five 'arms' with Tyrgon head crests if you wanted something even more similar.

And just a reminder, in February I was mourning it's loss but here we are right back at it with so much more too. The fact is I am super excited to have this back in my arsenal. Will I be purchasing one though...? Erm, not just yet. I obviously have my own scratchbuilds and they will suffice for now. So is that an own goal by GW, too little too late? Not at all because right now I'm looking at the Codex anew. Suddenly there options, some I mentioned in my earlier post but these are kits I had not entertained before. The Haruspex I wanted for the cool model but as Monkeychuka pointed out the Haruspex is awesome but the Exocrine is more useful. Now the Haruspex has a delivery mechanism, heck pretty much everything can be in your face, this way. I was only contemplating how much we needed that level of deployment when this happened to me the other night:

There's nothing like seeing your opponent put drop pods on your Landing Pad to feel slightly aggrieved you can't even attempt the same. Still, all kinds of fun to be had. I will be definitely be getting some new models, models I wouldn't have considered prior to this option, so although I'll muddle on with the pods for friendly games I will be partaking of other gribbly sustenance. However, I have quite a bit on the plate at the moment, stuff that is in my hobby list and as and when my mojo and opportunity returns I will be focusing on those items.

So as giddy as a schoolgirl I may be thanks to GWs beneficence I will have to contain my excitement and just enjoy the new dawn that's arrived just 10 months after the initial horror of the new Codex. happy days!

HELL YEAH! The return of the Mycetic Spore!

I give you the Tyrranocyte! 75pts, so it's more expensive but it comes armed with 5 deathspitters! No one can face down that much firepower [not to mention you can upgrade those to 5 Barbed Stranglers or 5 Venom Cannons]! It still looks like it'll shoot at the neearest traget but add in a Dakkafex or 20 Devgaunts or 10 Warriors or lets face it the Toxicrene and Haruuspex itself suddenly take on a whole new outlook. This is so much win for nids...

If you look close you'll see that the WS and BS are still 2, it's now S5 instead of 6 :( T is either 5 or 3, I think it looks more like 5 which is :) less insta-kill but look at it's Wounds - 6, up from 3! Initiative 3 [from 1] and attacks 3, Ld and 4+ save still the same. Nothing about close combat weapons, it's lost it's Lash Whips and Ripper Tentacles but is does say although it cannot Sweeping Advance it can Consolidate so deal with a T5 6W unit in assault!

One last thing, look in the 'Area Denial' rules on the left, just below where it refers to 'lob Spore Mines' and it referes to a 'Mucloid'. So I guess this kit makes a second model that fires Spore Mines too! Happy days!

Now the big question, will these still be acceptable...

Amongst friends no doubt but what about tournaments, let the debate rage

Terrain is everything - Project Ω - Realm of Battle Board - We can rebuild it!

What we have here is the first 'real' step to the restoration of Ferron Proxima. The shadow wash solved the Polyvine problem but here we see the true colours shining through. The bottom board has had it's coat of Vermillion craft acrylic. I was slightly more judicious with its application this time as the shadow wash was heavier to counter the Polyvine so I was having to cover black shadows instead of darkened Red Oxide, if you follow.

Now it took a suspiciously long time to do the first panel which may indicate I added too much and subsequently was less enthusiastic with it's application on the remaining tiles.

I don't know whether the strength of the application will show up, certainly in these pictures it's not immediately evident but there are filters applied to the images which may not represent 100% colour accuracy [close though].

The second flat board seems to be of a similar tone and we are still saving some of the past effort.

Although it may look a fraction darker in this comparison...? However I think I fixed the boards in respect to taking the highlight to the edge a little more. I was concerned the tiles would look distinct, I think I've mitigated that compared to the first time around.

here you can see the right side of the board highlighted. Some may think I'm flattening out a perfectly acceptable finish but you can just see some Polyvine remnants in the top left corner so close up this far from the perfect finish so I have to fix it. There are still highlights to add to this which will bring back the contrast we gushed about first time around.

Bang! and the Polyvine is gone! All back to an acceptable first pass of highlights.

On with the Pumpkin, mixed in with Vermillion. Once again it was only a small amount of Pumpkin and I made sure not to highlight any tile edges, only board texture, and random spots across the board for variety.

This was followed by a pure Pumpkin highlight on the extreme edges and adreas of 'high traffic'

Overall I think I managed to recapture the original.

But the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating [although the lighting is a little off between the two pics they are pretty much bob on] ...

Close up I may have added a little more Pumpkin despite the above picture suggesting otherwise.

And on with the spatter. i managed to get some bigger blobs in some places, which was nice

However, there is definitely a diagonal 'swathe' in the bottom left hand corner resulting in the spots having a direction. Not optimal but I can live with it after all the drama thus far.

I did however object to the three larger blobs of Bonewhite, an example being the one on top of the hill. And so went at it with a damp cloth. Of course it didn't come off cleanly and despite a similar 'rescue attempt' on paint bristle last time around I didn't learn from my mistake and the end result probably looks worse than if I'd just left those three larger blobs. Clearly I need to have a lesson beaten into me to take notice!

So, next up the extra shading and then fix the skulls...

Terrain is everything - Project Ω - Realm of Battle Board - 50 Shades of Red Oxide

Happy Hallowe'en! Dry your eyes and lets fix this mother! On with the shadow wash. You can see there is still some evidence of the Polyvine [the whiteish streaks towards the top of the board] but overall I'd say it's been reduced by 80%

Once again this could be considered a perfect place to stop and I bet this would ideal for most of what John Blanche does with his Inquisition models or those done by Spiky Rat Pack [which I think are done for JB]

The colours are very earthy indeed and more than suitable for that painterly look that's popular for INQ28.

I'm hoping that because I've still manage to retain some of the depth of colours from the original coat of paint there will in fact be much more to see in the details when I add the highlights.

It's such a relief that I don't have to go back to square one, square 2.5 is still rewarding for the effort put in so far.

Just to illustrate how bad the Polyvine can get, notice the white 'foamed blob' on the edge just where the clips go. Clearly this product is desparate to dry milky white. Goodness knows what I would do if it dried like that on a freshly laid hardwood floor - it's intended purpose!

4+

Somehow I forgot my own 'blog day'. I guess all the home improvements have taken their toll. However, it's been four whole years since I truly fell of the wagon, when after 10 months of painting and modelling I finally committed the ultimate act against ,y sobriety and started a blog. I won't do a review of this year like I did last time, because I pretty much did that for the hobby season but I will say a big thanks to all those who continue to support the blog.

THANKS

Yes, whether it's reading commenting, following or even lurking it's great that you keep coming back for more random chat and occasional pic of a model ;) I'd been thinking I hadn't had a 'confession' for a while but given my limited hobby activities at the moment due to the continued home improvements schedule. It's a bit tough to take stock of what's happening when most of the hobby room is taken up with furniture that still has to be taken out of packaging. Still, I have a couple of updates on my Realm of Battle board to come once that is out of the way I should be able to cross off my Blood Bowl Elves and then it's about time I revealed Project Z, not to mention crack on with my Dark Angels.

Anyway, I'll leave with some colour tweaked and tilt-shifted pics of some of my Armies on Parade Board because they're just OTT.
