'nids part 142 - TO DONE! The Four Horsemen of the Ferron Apocalypse - 'FAMINE'

Famine is complete!

As you can see the toxic green has made a huge difference, he's clearly gearing up to cast Catalyst [according to my psychic power markers]. Granted his little support stem looks a bit rubbish, although it does look like a little fountainsupporting him. The reflected glow on the bottom of his tail is quite effective too.

However, in some of these views the stem disappears so maybe it's not too bad.

The Vernidas clear varnish has had 24 hours to shrink down, I'll keep adding successive layers to eventually have the crater filled. I've also noticed that once it cures it does manage to mute the coulours a little bit [although these have had a little auto-enhance to bring out the contrast already ;) ]

It'll be fun to run two of these with the new Psychic rules, alhtough two single units give me 4 Warp Charge to add to the pool whereas a unit of two gives me only 2?

Here's the big blue tick for getting it done, even if it's not on my To Do List, the rest of the 'Horsemen' will be coming over the next three days :0

  1. Amazing! The better photos pop him out out the screen. Tons of work into this guy, you should be proud...he looks great!

    1. Thanks Greg, the WIP shots will always have to be the best of a bad situation but I'll endeavour to continue to take decent finished model photos. I think I shifted the hue on them a little bit, slightly more orange than in real life but Picasa is a little different to Photoshop, but they do indeed pop so I'm happy.

      More to come tomorrow!

  2. support stem is perfect and just looks like drool coming off his body. That base is brilliant. Why only 2 sets of vanes on his back?

    1. When I was constructing him I had all the peices on a piece of paper on my desk, I knocked the paper off and found all but one of the small vents. I spent an hour on my hands and knees trying to find it to no avail. I ran drop simulations with the spare small vent to see how far it would scatter, still no success. I had torches hoping to pick up reflections from the surface, nothing.

Eventually I went with the nuclear option and vaccumed the entire area, three times and sifted through the contents repeatedly still no vent. I was left with the option of having a missing vent, maybe make some damage to show it had been wounded. Sculpt a new one or just go without and hope no one noticed...

I guess that didn't work out but it also helps differentiate the two Zoanthropes I have so I'm OK with the decision just to not bother with the third pair of vents.

    2. Spectacular! You should have just said that it was an aesthetic decision based on your particular muse for the portrayal of starvation and paucity. I would have nodded knowingly and praised your artistic direction. The actual explanation was much more entertaining however. I'm sure the missing piece will turn up when you least expect it.

    3. Of course trying to explain to the wife why I was rooting around on the floor and sheepishly coming out of the garage with vacuum dust all over my fingers when she cares not one jot for my hobby was a bit tough. In fairness she was slightly understanding although usually she just tells me to 'get rid of all this crap' that's cluttering the house. I got about two years of understanding after I took up the hobby to replace my kendo, that has started to wear out as the hobby has taken over.

  3. I feel bad laughing, but this reply was particularly hilarious. Mainly because it's happened to me before. Almost done a model, piece falls...gone forever. I figure it's with all my missing lego pieces and left socks.

    1. Or the other one where you move something and a box of bits falls down the back of the painting table. You've no idea what was in it and where it's all gone so you just give up and pretend it never happened!
