Terrain is everything - Haemotrope Reactor - TO DONE!

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer my Haemotrope Reactor. This is an avoidance project - I'm already trying to avoid the last bit of metallics on my Deathwing Terminator.

But it's still hobby and its turned out so well. So well in fact I regretted not getting my Thermic Plasma Conduits to a similar starting point so I could batch the lot.

I mean that does run the risk of burn-out - too much in one go. But even so there were milestones that I could have reached and easily swapped onto something else.

It just would have been really handy to be working on similar aspects, even if I'd focused on just the reactor when it was appropriate to do so.

Anyway, I love the colours, just the odd bit of BLESSED VERDIGRIS contributing so much.

The red glow on the outside of the coils is a mixed result. I really like them, think for just a thinned wash the glow effect is decent.

But, it might extend a little too much beyond the edges and is approaching a similar tone to the rust, so to my eyes it's almost rust, what do you think?

And here are the white background pics too.

A lot of rust, maybe too much?

If I got another I think I'd have less rust but I think this is what I was hoping for with my Servohaulers.

It's great to have all of these industrial pieces tied together. Again, I can't help regretting not getting my Plasma Conduits ready in time.

That little red glow on the bottom of his eye grill. I don't know what possessed me to do it but I love it SO much. It reminds me of something, maybe from an 80's videogame [which never had this fidelity of graphics] or action film but there is a nostalgic thrill I get EVERY time I look at it. I don't know how else to explain but it moves me in a way I've never felt before

Add in those ridiculous BLESSED VERDIGRIS stains and faked dial lenses 🤤

Additional details, plus the random selection of pipe colours. The orange ones were going to be yellow/black stripes but I didn't think they'd stand out so kept them orange, but different enough not to be rusty

Really proud of this, and another GREAT Big RUSTY Stamp of Approval .

Just one last thing to share - I love gloss varnish, especially when you first put it on and it creates this weird UV glow effect. Part of me wishes there was a paint to achieve this in one application.

Not quite as cool on the coils but still interesting. And also multiple applications of VerniDas gloss varnish to build up the dial lenses. Had to make sure gravity helped turn them into domes. Even a few weeks later there was still shrinkage and had to reapply drops. But they looks so cool.

Terrain is everything - Haemotrope Reactor

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer my Haemotrope Reactor. This had been primed for ages and sat on my shelf so I finally decided to just to sponge on some 'underrust'. Home Bargains had some Colvin & Co. Burnt Sienna which has come out so well as rust over the Red Oxide primer. I may be missing out on my holy Vermillion and sacred Burnt Umber [which they no longer seem to stock] but this is a revelation - take that Dirty Down Rust!

I straight up followed my Preceptor approach - sponging on Colvin & Co. Gamboge [again, no longer in stock.

I left plenty of the Burnt Sienna showing through to take advantage of the under rust.

Added some VGC Sun Yellow sponge highlights and then picked out the Mechanicum symbol and used my Burnt Umber ot make the skull grimdark, like my Servo Haulers.

The top was only lightly sponged with yellow as I've seen plenty of examples of construction vehicles, car bonnets and flat surfaces where this weathers most. It's not perfect but I like the result so far.

Lots of details to pick out on the skull, dials, wires and all the reactor insulator glass. I'm slightly regretting not finishing building my Thermic Plasma Conduits. They would have been in the same scheme and it would have been really good to have them painted at the same time.

Still, too much as a batch can stall progress, rather than helping move things on. There's not actually too much to do on this now but it's certainly a nice interlude. I'm just really enjoying being a hobby butterfly - go with the flow!

Terrain is everything - Munitorum containers - all change

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer on my Munitorum Containers. When last you saw I had containers in red/bone, yellow/black and teal/red with my 4th [the top one] still in it's red primer stage, plus lots of under-weathering. The plan was to do it white/orange to fit with my Genestealer Cult. However, I had not plucked up enough courage to cover all that weathering.

Until now that is! I know, it's a big jump but not taking pictures was the only way to get through this period, although I admit now I come to document it, it's incredibly frustrating not having the interim steps.

This is almost complete, and the teal/red was much improved too, enough for me to display in my Armies On Parade unfinished - no one but me would notice.

Sadly I don't have any other interim pics, but on the plus side the next set of pics are TO DONE! ones which are always cool.

Terrain is everything - Munitorum containers - BIG BUILD TO DONE!

Afternoon #WarHamFam and #WarhammerCommunity I've been #PaintingWarhammer and I know it's #DreadTober but I have a backlog of content and although not a Dread and not the 'dread' I've pledged it is sort of dread sized. Anyway, I hope to get an additional 2 Munitorum Containers finished for #ArmiesOnParade and this is the 4th one I got from the Imperium partworks sale, that also got me the additional Death Guard

It had been sat unbuilt for quite a while because I wanted to make the doors hinged so they could open and close.

It's a little fiddly but actually very simple. I used fine brass pins in the doors themselves and drilled into the door frame.

I drilled through the bottom of the door and had to try and patch it up with some sprue shaving, superglue and bicarb of soda. Fingers crossed it's strong enough.

Basecoats, this appears much bluer than in real life. It is Hydra Turquoise I think so has a little more green in the colour.

These containers can be incredibly frustrating as to get to this stage is relatively quick and easy. Then I get stuck with how next to proceed.

I;d originally planned a white stripe down the centre but somehow thought the red looked cool so that arrested any momentum as I had to ponder that change in plan.

It would still need washes though, to try and bed that Turquoise into the red oxide undercoat.

My sepia wash once again doing it's damnedest to leave deposits in the recesses. Not a problem with loads more washes and rust effects to add but this is much more representative of the actual colour.

I'll be trying to keep the red stripe darker than I usually go. It won't get to Vermillion, I have a Mephiston Red that I'll be sticking to.

After I do some more highlights and weathering the next issue is big numbers, how and where do I put the big number?

However,  I do get a Great Big Big Build RUSTY Stamp of Approval for the build.
