1500pts Lists some help please.

So I've got four 1500pt lists here with the major differences highlighted in yellow. I'd originally thought to take a Hive Tyrant but felt two Tervigons are more durable. I also feel I should definitely have the Defence Line because it looks cool as opposed to necessarily being a winning tool. I want to include the WQuad gun but given the FAQ feel it would be pointless. I've ended up with only one list with it in because most armies I've played have only had one flyer but if I face more without it I'll definitely be dead in the water with only cover saves to try and keep me alive. Anyway here are the four and my individual thoughts.

This is probably my most standard force and one I'm most familiar with. Ymgarls for deployment zone shenanigans. Hormagaunts as my meat shield but only 5 stealers which is a bit weak.

HQ
Tyranid Prime with Lashwhip and Bonesword, Deathspitter, Synapse Creature,
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
Elites
  2x Hive Guard(s)
  5x Ymgarl Genestealer(s)
  1x Zoanthrope(s)
Troops
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
  10x Termagaunts with Devourer
Mycetic Spore with Hardened Carapace, Lash Whip, Ripper tentacles,
  12x Hormagaunts
3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler, Deathspitter, Scything Talons,
Broodlord with Adrenal Glands, Scything Talons ,
  5x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands,
Heavy Support
  Trygon
Fortifications
  Aegis Defence Line

Swapping out the Ymgarls for more durable brood of stealers, but losing on the in your face dangers. Only 11 Hormagaunts this time but I get the Quad Gun, if I can use it and alternatively I could add a 3rd Hive Guard to instantly fix the list if it wasn't acceptable.

HQ
Tyranid Prime with Lashwhip and Bonesword, Deathspitter, Synapse Creature,
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
Elites
  2x Hive Guard(s)
  1x Zoanthrope(s)
Troops
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
  10x Termagaunts with Devourer
Mycetic Spore with Hardened Carapace, Lash Whip, Ripper tentacles,
  11x Hormagaunts
3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler, Deathspitter, Scything Talons,
Broodlord with Adrenal Glands, Scything Talons ,
  8x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands,
Heavy Support
  Trygon with
Fortifications
  Aegis Defence Line
  Quad gun

Given the success of the Doom in a recent match he still has the ability to inflict carnage but is he too much and suicidal? Back with the Ymgarls but Hormies and Stealers are as small a unit as they can be and possibly First Blood fodder!

HQ
Tyranid Prime with Lashwhip and Bonesword, Deathspitter, Synapse Creature,
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
Elites
  2x Hive Guard(s)
  5x Ymgarl Genestealer(s)
The Doom of Malan’tai with Mycetic Spore with Hardened Carapace, Lash Whip, Ripper tentacles,
Troops
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
  10x Termagaunts with Devourer
  10x Hormagaunts
3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler, Deathspitter, Scything Talons,
Broodlord with Adrenal Glands, Scything Talons ,
  4x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands,
Heavy Support
  Trygon
Fortifications
  Aegis Defence Line

Just a list thrown in, reduced Stealers but with added Broodlord make them a little more durable and more Psychic powers to throw around.

HQ
Tyranid Prime with Lashwhip and Bonesword, Deathspitter, Synapse Creature,
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
Elites
2x Hive Guard(s)
1x Zoanthrope(s)
Troops
Tervigon with Catalyst, Dominion, Synapse Creature, Stinger Salvo, Crushing Claws
  10x Termagaunts with Devourer
Mycetic Spore with Hardened Carapace, Lash Whip, Ripper tentacles,
  12x Hormagaunts
3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler, Deathspitter, Scything Talons,
Broodlord with Adrenal Glands, Scything Talons ,
  4x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands,
  Broodlord with Toxin Sacs,
  4x Genestealers with Toxin Sacs,
Heavy Support
  Trygon
Fortifications
  Aegis Defence Line

So there we go, your help is appreciated. I could always bin off the Hormagaunts altogether, they're never as effective as I wish them to be but they're useful in going forwards through cover and backed up by the Stealers could be effective in flanking. Ultimately It will have Hive Guard, Warriors, Tervigons and Trygons with Devgaunts and a pod but if anyone can play around with the remainder please do. I had thought about Regeneration on a Tervigon also or perhaps save a couple of points by switching to Scything Talons on one, given as that's how it's modelled. The Defence Line would be nice but I'm wondering if 50 point elsewhere may be better, I can still put it on my trays for the army and people can "aahh!" But I'm not sure if using it may risk whatever chances I have thanks to weak units. Thoughts appreciated.

Apocalypse Wow!

My local GW - Southport has recently had a new manager start, and as mentioned there will be an Apocalypse battle against the newly reawakened Necrons on the 19th November. So we've got together a 1,500pt force [as per instructions]. It's prety much our standard list but I wanted to try out the two Primes, and the Mycetic Spore.

We ummed and ahhed over Zoanthropes, Rippers, more Hormogaunts and the Biovore and in the end managed a bit of each just minus the Zoanthrope. 'Madness' some may say but he's currently broken and although their the only real anti-tank we have I don't think it's worth it to pin all our Monolith killing hopes on the big brained bug.

The Biovore was also not a first choice but having heard some reports about the danger of the new Scarabs I can see his pie-plate blasts coming in handy to thin out those things, so he came back in.

The Rippers may be surprising considering my past thoughts but I wanted to finish the other two bases of them but in the end thought just the three, and the Biovore was a better option. I ran the maths versus more Hormagaunts but realised I could have 4 Hormies or 3 Rippers and although there's less option to claim objectives the increased wounds may make them more of a pain to the Necrons. So long as I can keep them in Synapse of one of my creatures, probably the Trygon Prime after Tunneling then at least they won't start eating themselves!

So we have:
  • Tyranid Prime with Lashwhip and Bonesword, Deathspitter
  • Tyranid Prime with Pair of Boneswords, Scything Talons
  • Tervigon with Catalyst, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, Stinger Salvo
  • 10x Termagaunts with Devourer inside:
  • Mycetic Spore with Hardened Carapace, Lash Whip, Ripper tentacles, Stinger Salvo
  • 21x Hormaguants with Toxin Sacs
  • 3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler,Deathspitter
  • Broodlord with Scything Talons, Adrenal Glands, with:
  • 7x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands
  • 7x Genestealers with Toxin Sacs
  • 3x Ripper Swarms with Tunnel Swarm
  • 10x Gargoyles
  • Trygon with Upgrade to Trygon Prime
  • 1x Biovore
1499pts. 68 figures [7 Synapse creatures] although some will be deep striking. The CC Prime will most likely join the Hormagaunts. I think the Trygon will be deep-striking but we'll decide on the day. I'll take pictures and report back after the event.

'nids part 17 and 'List maker'

'

OK here's another army list from a while back. Some of it has changed but some is still relevant. First up I have to admit it isn't legal, there are 7 troops, but that's because the Alice 40k Warhammer club listmaker treats the Tervigon as a unit upgrade to the Termagant squad, not as a HQ that can now be taken as a troop. I think I later got round this by making the Ripper Swarms flying instead of tunnelling which would have achieved the same Deep Strike 'annoyatoit' antics that I see them as

HQ - Tyranid Prime with Pair of Boneswords, Synapse Creature

HQ - Hive Tyrant with Lash Whip and Bonesword, Heavy Venom Cannon, Synapse Creature, Psychic Scream, Leech Essence

ELITE - The Doom of Malan'tai 90
  Mycetic Spore with Barbed Strangler

Troops - Tervigon with Catalyst
Troops - 10x Termagants with Devourer
Troops - 16x Hormaguants with Toxin Sacs
Troops - 3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler, Deathspitter
Troops - Broodlord Squad Member with 7x Genestealers
Troops - 8x Genestealers
Troops - 3x Ripper Swarms with Tunnel Swarm

Fast Attack - 10x Gargoyles

Heavy Support - Trygon
Heavy Support - 1x Biovore

'nids part 1. and 'List maker'

So given my son's choice of 'nids I thought I'd look to some form of army list maker to help, erm, making the lists. Obviously there are some you have to pay for but if you can get one for free even better, and that's what I found. Over at Alice 40k Warhammer club they have plenty of list makers for your specific codex. They're all Excel spreadsheets and they're quite good, a few bugs in places but nothing you can't add to somewhere to get your force down.
With this in mind here's the first list I came up with, using my son's figures and a few more I felt I needed [like the Shrikes for synapse support for the Gargoyles]. It was completely without any background knowledge, the Codex was so new very little advice was available at the time.
  • Tyranid Prime with Pair of Boneswords,Adrenal Glands,Toxin Sacs,Regeneration,,,,,,,,,,,,120
  • 3x Hive Guard(s) with ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,150
  • Tervigon with ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,160
  • 12x Termagaunts with Strangleweb,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,70
  • 12x Genestealers with Adrenal Glands,Toxin Sacs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,240
  • 3x Tyranid Warriors with Barbed Strangler,Deathspitter,,,,,,,,,,,,,,110
  • 3x Ripper Swarms with Tunnel Swarm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,36
  • 10x Gargoyles with ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,60
  • 3x Tyranid Shrikes with Pair of Boneswords,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,135
  • Trygon with Regeneration,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,225
  • 1x Biovore(s) with ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,45
TOTAL 1351
Now a lot of things would change with this mainly due to offers that became available on ebay. So we'll see where we're at once all those purchases got made. Certainly the Shrikes have gone by the wayside, despite finding 3 pairs of wings I could use to convert them... Meanwhile where was that Tervigon coming from?
Next up what I did for my HQ choice, the Tyranid Prime...
