He overcompensated on his anti-air and allowed my swarms to run amok against his fleshy blue calamari. It was a very good feeling munching my way up a 3 story ruin, killing a squad of Firewarriors/Scouts on each of the 3 levels per turn.

Ironically, however, out of 2 games with the Endless Swarm, and 5-6 dice rolls to see if any units come back, I have not once rolled a 4+... Also, even though they managed to get into his lines pretty quickly, I think the next time I will definitely pay a Trygon tax to get a hole closer to my enemy's backfield.

I like the idea of multiple targets popping up in the opponent's yard, whether it's gribblies, Stealers or Lictors (the latter which has proven quite potent in the tourney scene).

Unfortunately, I currently do not own any Stealers (and only 3 potential counts-as Lictors) so my experimentation will have to be with the cannon fodder- er, Hormagaunts and Termigants.

Either way, it's nice to see often-slagged units being used to decent effect!

Alladin the Paladinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04511944547698978283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-19247540824967013522015-04-04T16:00:53.479+01:002015-04-04T16:00:53.479+01:00Great battle report dave looks like a close game a...Great battle report dave looks like a close game and really enjoyable . The board is brilliant and like u said otty made it some years ago before the gw one we used it for ww2 miniature battles hence the roads but still a great board . I think maelstrom has brought a new aspect to 40 k and in many ways saved the game system from the tedious old missions which all end up as let's just wipe the other player out and I've won .Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00937515411618834127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-82912368040848679592015-04-04T16:00:13.284+01:002015-04-04T16:00:13.284+01:00Great battle report dave looks like a close game a...Great battle report dave looks like a close game and really enjoyable . I do recall now he failed a Look Out Sir roll and thanks to his stupid big base was just ahead of the brood so took the full brunt of the overwatch, which I think was indeed distorting40kaddicthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12763647828123242837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-35397702337906576012015-04-04T13:25:06.037+01:002015-04-04T13:25:06.037+01:00Genestealers are a mixed bag, invariably I am more...Genestealers are a mixed bag, invariably I am more successful with them than the Broodlord. He only hit 50% of the time, statistically below average. However, the Stealers were effective thanks to the Scytals giving them +1 attacks. If they can assault an already engaged unit there's no overwatch so you [should] get 32 attacks, making 24 hits and potentially 6 rends add in the other saves and that's a potent force.

The Children of Cryptus also get Stealth so that helped keep them alive, especially when the Malanthrope was giving them shrouded too - a 2+ cover save!

Alternatively the Manufactorum formation means you have 5 broods of 5 which means you can lose a few but it's definitely worth doubling up on broods assaulting. One brood alone is likely to fall foul but now I see how effective Scytals are that could change.

If you look back I've been quite unlucky on some of my games with them as I've faced a lot of template weapons. However, should you face an opponent without 'ignores cover' and get night fight that first turn you can 'go to ground' in a ruin getting a 2+ cover save then swoop a Flyrant into Synapse range [or extend with Dominion] in your next turn they'll immediately recover and can assault.

Having them targeted so early on and with such a great save means your other forces get to close with the enemy under less fire. At least that's the principle.40kaddicthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12763647828123242837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-60027153835130481752015-04-04T05:37:07.232+01:002015-04-04T05:37:07.232+01:00No wait, maybe they 'distorted' him.No wait, maybe they 'distorted' him.Monkeychukahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13943869291884524172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-10374485885263184932015-04-04T05:35:54.046+01:002015-04-04T05:35:54.046+01:00Yeah, how come your stealers weren't Wall of D...Yeah, how come your stealers weren't Wall of Deathed by the Wraithguard? 5 of em should have given you a mauling. I haven't properly played him since upgrading to dual Flyrants, so that might help.

Your Genestealers seem to survive (and kill stuff) much better than what the general consensus has to say about them... Interesting.

I kind of hate that D3+3 card. It's basically made for the bloody Eldar with their turbo boosting and battle focusing... Some foam roughly cut up and painted up with some dry brushing would look nice and block quite a bit.

Without LOS blockers, shooting armies have a bit advantage. Plenty of scatter and medium terrain on the board, just need some stuff that you can hide behind.

Hive guard become particularly awesome (as do biovores), when your opponent has to fly into your deployment zone to stop the endless pain.greggleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15528518337222880432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-4742641684534072982015-04-03T16:25:37.947+01:002015-04-03T16:25:37.947+01:00Yeah, I think you're right, definitely noticea...Yeah, I think you're right, definitely noticeable not to have my Bastion to hide behind. Otty said he'd got a city fight board, I may suggest we do a proper one of those next time. My nephew's ebay Items does include a couple of Bastions, so if and when I get them and have any games I'll be having dilapidated versions to help in this respect.

However, check out some of my games with Liam, he has these massive buildings that offer loads of LoS. I will probably look into finishing off my Inquisitorial building at some point for this reason too. 40kaddicthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12763647828123242837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125294933155144215.post-89165591423180844022015-04-03T15:12:31.716+01:002015-04-03T15:12:31.716+01:00Fantastic close game!
