'nids part 157 - The Spawn of Cryptus

At this point the Spawn started to take priority, leaving his toxin spewing bretheren hanging around like a bad smell. There's obviously little here that hasn't been covered before, Turquoise highlights on the Chitin.

Once again the detritus on my desk, which makes just painting one miniature reasonably practical.

Second set of highlights have gone on and the first set of Bonewhite striations. You can definitely see when you 'click to enbiggen' just how clumsy my brush work can be. If I'm honest I could have tried harder on such a 'limited edition' model. But at the end of the day he's still a Broodlord and although I'm mad for Stealers at the moment that's only so far as their usefulness and in part because they're relatively cheap additions to a Tyranid force.

I definetely think most nid players should have 25 at least in their arsenal. If you're starting out that's a healthy addition to your army and even just a brood of 5 can be handy in a pinch.

More highlights and the red fleshy bits next, have to admit the Red Oxide primer is paying dividends on this immensely

  1. Never get tired of your scheme Dave. It's just lovely to look upon. I think your brush work is just fine. I'd only worry about such things if I was going for a single miniature competition. Even then, your idea of sloppy is my idea of neat :).

    1. Thanks for the praise. I'm hoping at some point this year I will be able to take a photograph of the entire hive fleet, I may even do a video for the youtube! It'll be on the completed Realm of Battle board so it should look cool. There's still a lot more to do but hopefully it'll be eveything so far and as I'm not intending to add anything else it should be everything I own [except for a bunch of Warriors I haven't decided on yet, whether to convert to Hive Guard or not].

  2. got to agree with Mr Hess. I fail to see how your brushwork is clumsy :)

  3. Looking awesome mate. The red fleshy bits, especially on the hands and face, are a really effective contrast. You are making me want to paint more genestealers!

    1. It's so differetn to my old 'liver' colour I'm even contemplating revisiting the original genestealers to 'redden' them up and bring them into line with the current crop. The base edges all need touch ups anyway and it would be rude to have my Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Red out and not thin it down and apply to all the limb joints.

  4. Such a nice turquoise on the chitin and base.

I definitely wouldn't call your brush work "clumsy", it seems you took your time and the result is great.

    1. It's stumbling upon the second Turquoise highlight paint. That's meant a level of consistency and more vibrancy to all my models. No more mixing highlights, fingers crossed I don't run out.
