'nids part 30 - Devilgaunts

My neighbour and carsharing gaming buddy Mark was getting rid of some 'nids so I decided to pick up these ten Devourer Termagants. I hope you recall that 'To Do List' indeed these aren't on it, neither's the Broodlord I picked up or the two Blood Bowl teams I'm painting.

I may well be adding to my figures despite not finishing what I've already got but if the new figures I get are completed "tout de suite" then all things are forgiven. It's also particularly useful to have something to re-ignite the painting passion. Call these a catalyst if you will to getting into painting so I can tackle those Dark Angels anew.

And here we are with the base coat of 'Cappucino' art acrylic [bonewhite substitute] and Ultramarine blue. Notice the Toxin sacs on their backs. These will be useful in differentiating squads of ten at least. 20 in a Mycetic Spore would be fun 60 shots! but two separate units could be handy too or even just as another to gants to be spawned, just pretend their Fleshborers, not that I've ever run out of spawned Termagants, yet.

Next up is the liver colouring on the Devourers, muzzles, pipes and Toxin Sacs, then washes.

  2. Cheers, the great thing about them, is you can do the bog standard - Chitin colour with striations with a base colour and accent, like I did or you can go all weird. There's a great example in white dwarf of an army that's a dark grey with gloss black chitin and yellow Rorshach blobs on the back and the odd dark green piping. Anything alien can go with them, obviously.

Necrons I think are the same, you can do the old Boltgun silver and green or go rusty, chipped ceramic, totally Egypt inspired or any of the above. I think with all the Xeno races despite the limited examples in the Codes [compared with say the Space Marine Codex] in actual fact you probably have more variety than an Astartes. Most Astartes end up one colour or then a mix or a split but they're still a Marine in the end. These devgaunts with their toxin sacs have brought a new colour into my Hive so there's much fun coming up.

  3. I love my Devourer Termies! 15 in a spore pod is a 200 point 45 shot surgical strike unit, ready to take out whatever long range fire unit that is annoying me the most. With their 18" range even if they deviate wildly they are usually still within range.

  4. I agree Fred they are really cool and useful. Once the pod is down, hopefully by something it can rattle with it's Ripper Tentacles and within striking distance of an objective too. That way I string the devgaunts out so the majority are still in range of shooting targets but a few are within capture distance of the objective. Then if they take casualties you just creep them back to the objective denying charge/shooting threat to the Termagants and still securing the objective. Such utility, I definitely need it in my 1000 point list.
